Paper.li improvements
200 and 1 posts in this blog. Cool :).
In my social media trainings people often fall in love with Paper.li and think about the its possibilities. Just got an email telling about the improvements there are...
So something for me to check too :). The Paper.li I publish is of course about dollhouses and miniatures and it is called The Mini Treasures Daily. People are so happy when they end up to this paper - and so am I :).
Thanks for the great service, Paper.li! :)
In my social media trainings people often fall in love with Paper.li and think about the its possibilities. Just got an email telling about the improvements there are...
Improved Curation We increased the number of content streams, introduced new sources such as Google+ and RSS feeds and improved filtering to aid you in publishing your topic specific papers.
Publish it Bookmarklet
A nifty tool that empowers you to easily curate content from anywhere on the web into a current edition of your newspaper, as well as store that source for future editions.
Mobile Readers
We launched a native Paper.li iPhone app and introduced a web optimized mobile browser for iPhone and Android devices to support the growing demand in mobile viewing.
Community
Back by popular demand, we re-launched the Community blog. Read how publishers are using Paper.li to support ideas, promote awareness and build communities around topics and events.
New Home Page
Lastly, we launched a new front page that brings all the essentials into one place. This makes it easy to access the newsstand and blogs, and stay abreast of announcements.
So something for me to check too :). The Paper.li I publish is of course about dollhouses and miniatures and it is called The Mini Treasures Daily. People are so happy when they end up to this paper - and so am I :).

Slides That Rock by Slides that rock
Sorry. You might noticed the previous blog update with no title or content but these slides (going to remove it). Sorry, had a quick finger, I meant to schedule it but pushed the wrong button. Today I am going through a SlideShare tour helped by my contacts there - they are recommending me what to watch. As I am PowerPoint super user I found this presentation nice - it helps me to create even better presentations. Maybe it helps you too...

What the F8 Facebook Changes Mean for Marketers
Found this through @Rautasilta, thank you :).
The changes in Facebook are big and it is harder to get into fans´ stream than it use to be. It seems that Facebook hates automated content, e.g. via Twitterfeed. I don´t like it as I want to get all the content I have "ordered" by liking a page or by friending a person. Why can Facebook decide what they will show me? This is why I like Twitter more - I still see the content (e.g. news) I have ordered, not only content Twitter has been paid for. :P

Referral Key: Are you taking on new clients?
Today I got an email asking me:
Well, hell yea I am!
This looked so much about a spam message I almost skipped it. But as there was a name of a person I appreciate I looked further and did a Google search about Referral Key.
Some social media specialists join every new SM service but I am not one of them. I like to sit back and wait to see if the service will survive after the first hype period.
So I learnt to know that in this service I can get leads if I pay for them and I can get paid if I help others get leads. Not sure if I want to do it - at least via a service like this. I rather help a friend (in Finland we have this thing called Friendtrepreneurs) give a favor from a favor. If someone I don´t know well enough offers me 10$ for a lead I do not bother.
I think these lead contracts work best when they are agreed between two partners. So if you´d like me to give you leads for your social media platform or service, contact me and introduce your product for me. If I like it I start recommending it to my customers and everytime you get a new customer through me I´ll get a fair reward. And the other way around, whenever you recommend me for a training, a workshop or a content creation project in social media, you will get a reward from me. None of us would do this only for money as there´s our own reputation on the table - we only recommend things we believe in.
So for now I stay away from Referral Key and trust my contacts to recommend me even without a dedicated service like this. And we still have LinkedIn for recommendations...
Are you taking on new clients?

Hi Johanna,
If you're taking on new clients, I'd like to include you in my private referral network to send you business leads through Referral Key.

Again @Facebook changes - for worse that is
I hate when Facebook keeps changing, it seems that it is always for worse. During the past few days I noticed 2 changes:
1. I had sent a friend request (by accident, I did not know her) to someone. Now I see in my stream that she has got new friends. I am not accepting all friends and I truly hate if those people I am not accepting will get notifications that I am friending X and Y but not them. I am not sharing my friends in public, why should I share it to people I do not want to friend?
2. I used to see what my friends are writing to walls of Facebook pages I like too. Now I see what they write to other pages too which is irritating me. I am not interested of them! If I would, I would like the same pages they are! And there´s no way to unfollow those notifications!
Blah. Would be really surprised if someone from Facebook would answer me or even better, remove these features.

Introduction to Google+
Maybe it is the summer time, maybe it is Google Wave and Google Buzz but I did not get so excited about this new service. Looks nice but still: how to get people hooked from the services they are already using? I am kind of tired of Facebook already and would like to get a new service where to discuss with different groups of my life. Diaspora seemed promising but it did not get the users.
So good luck Google+, I wont be one of your first users but if you get even 30% of my contacts in, I'll be there too. :)

LindaLor: How to easily extend a photo's background for #PowerPoint
I am starting a new collaboration project with Outi Lammi who has published quite many books e.g. about MS Office tools. She is such a pro I am just thrilled about this possibility! In her blog she shared a practical trick for PowerPoints and even though it is not the topic of this blog I am sharing it too. The video was made with Screenr, a service I have planned to familiarize myself soonish.
And about our project: you just need to wait... :)

Customizing the new FB profile
Found this via Sotku Oy - Schweppes has made a cool application for us to customize our profiles. Looks nice.
you need to get off facebook
As a social media professional I can't get off Facebook even if I wanted. But lately I have been removing a lot of so called friends (e.g. people who were not sharing with me or who I have never met IRL) and also unliked (fan) pages. Makes me feel good. :)

SOITA - research is starting
I am now blogging more in Finnish than in English - it used to be the other way around. On Monday I how ever blogged about something I want to share in this blog too and to make a quick post I used Google translator to translate the text in English. So if this sounds weird, blage big G :).
My longtime dream has come true: I will continue my studies after ten years. I graduated from master's degree from the University of Tampere, majoring in statistics and even if I conducted a my studies pretty soon, I did not want to continue my studies then. A couple of years ago, during the Christmas holiday, I realized I wanted to do postgraduate studies relating social media tools.
Soon after I got more to think about, Nokia announced to leave the city of Jyväskylä and I began to focus on my new career, I jumped through Protomo to Ambientia and started a company of my own. In the background I was thinking about the studies and participated quite many seminars. E.g. last spring, the University of Jyväskylä organized a seminar about digital innovation which is the same subject I am now concentrating. I feel myself lucky to be able to decide how I use my time - and now half of my week goes to my new work at the university.
On Monday I started as a project manager in the Tampere University of Technology, Information Management and Logistics Department . Our project is called SOITA (social media as part of innovation process in customer interface). The project lasts two years and it focuses on B2B companies. Our our goals are not only to create companies good practices and encouraging examples but also disseminate them widely to Finnish organizations.
If you have something similar going on, do not hesitate to contact me, e.g. by johanna dot Janhonen at tut dot com.
Happy New Year! I do hope your dreams come true too:).

Finnish Facebook study
A Finnish city magazine called City-lehti made a Facebook study in the end of last year, here are some highlights from it. They got over 500 answers, 94% of them used Facebook, 65% were female and the median age was 28.
10% had fake their Facebook name,
4% had complained about their boss in facebook,
2% wanted to leave Facebook
68% had used fb when they had drunk - and 13% regrets it ;)
In Facebook profile
69% told their age
43% their education,
39% their favorite movie,
37% their spouse,
35% their job,
28% their favourite book,
23% their religion
20% their location
10% their political view and
7% home address
Who would they show their Facebook profile?
89% to their spouse
74% to colleagues,
72% parents,
45% grandparents,
44% boss
Female vs male comparision:
removed friends 86%(F) vs 49%(M),
blocked updates 52% (F) vs 43% (M),
found sex partner 9% (F) vs 13% (M)
It would be quite interesting to see if the results vary a lot from country to country :).
